The Board of Examiners.

1. Give the symptoms, progress, terminations, and treatment of caries of the vertebræ.

2. Describe the course of a direct inguinal hernia from the abdomen to the scrotum, and its relation to the deep epigastric artery.

How would you diagnose an incomplete direct inguinal from a femoral hernia ?

3. What are the general appearances, the course, symptoms, and diagnosis of the two following venereal affections: (a) The hard infecting chancre, and (b) the soft chancre? How should each of these forms of disease be treated, locally and constitutionally? What are the sequelæ in either form?

4. Describe minutely the treatment of a recent wound which has penetrated the knee joint. Give the symptoms and treatment of acute traumatic arthritis of this joint. How would you drain the joint?

5. Describe the abnormal positions of the ends of the bone sometimes seen in the following simple fractures of the radius, viz., those which are situated immediately above the insertion of the pronator teres, and those which are immediately below the insertion of that muscle. What muscles are concerned in displacing the fragments, and what means would you employ to maintain the bone in its proper position in each of these cases ?

6. Give the symptoms and diagnosis of a recent dislocation of the head of the femur on to the pubes. Describe the reduction by manipulation, also reduction by the pulleys. What is the differential diagnosis between this dislocation and an impacted fracture of the neck of the femur?

2. In face presentations, give the mode of production, positions, mechanism of delivery, and treatment.

5. What is the treatment of Myoma of the Uterus with haemorrhage?

1. Describe fully the points to be attended to in the differential diagnosis of small-pox and chicken

pox.

2. Describe the treatment of a case of typhoid fever from the earliest stage to complete convalescence.

3. Give an account of the causation, associated conditions, diagnosis, and treatment of emphysema of the lungs.

4. Describe the causes of piles, and the treatment other than surgical.

5. What are the diseases of the nervous system marked respectively by exaggeration and diminution of the reflexes?

FORENSIC MEDICINE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MEDICINE.

The Board of Examiners.

1. What are the usual causes of sudden death, apart from accidents, which form the subject of coronial inquiry?

2. Enumerate all the appearances probative of livebirth, and specify the modes of death which are peculiar to new-born children.

3. Describe rigor mortis, and say how this phenomenon is to be distinguished from post-mortem stiffening,

the result of causes other than that which occasions ordinary cadaveric rigidity.

4. What is putrefaction, how is it occasioned, and what are the conditions which severally retard or accelerate its progress.

5. When a person is said to be burnt to death, in what several modes may death have been actually brought about?

6. Relate a case of general paralysis of the insane, describing the progressive stages of the disease, and also the appearances likely to be observed

after death.

7. Detail the symptoms of chronic poisoning by Arsenious Acid, Tartarized Antimony, and Perchloride of Mercury. Describe also the postmortem appearances. Say also with what diseases in each case the symptoms and appearances might be confounded.
