ing indemnity for improvements on lands which are now included in the Pawnee Indian reservation; which was referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs.

Mr. Singleton, by unanimous consent, introduced a bill (H. R. 412) graduating the price of certain lands in the State of Mississippi; which was read a first and second time, and referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

On motion of Mr. De Witt C. Leach, by unanimous consent, Ordered, That the Committee of the Whole House be discharged from the further consideration of the report of the Court of Claims, No. 162, in the case of Arthur Edwards and others, and that the papers in the case be referred to the Committee on the Post Office and Post Roads.

Mr. Boteler, by unanimous consent, introduced bills of the following titles, viz:

H. R. 413. A bill to provide for the construction of a railroad and telegraph communication from a point on the Mississippi river, south of latitude thirty-seven, to the Pacific ocean; and

H. R. 414. A bill for the construction of a bridge over the Potomac river, at Georgetown;

which were severally read a first and second time, and referred as
follows, viz:

H. R. 413, to the select committee on the Pacific railroad.
H. R. 414, to the Committee for the District of Columbia.

On motion of Mr. Buffinton, by unanimous consent,

Ordered, That the Committee of the Whole House be discharged from the further consideration of the report of the Court of Claims, No. 246, in the case of the heirs of Joshua Eddy, and that the same be referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Claims.

On motion of Mr. Kilgore, by unanimous consent,

Ordered, That the Committee for the District of Columbia be discharged from the further consideration of joint resolutions of the mayor and council of the city of Washington, relative to the improvement of the navigation of the Potomac, and that the same be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Mr. De Jarnette, by unanimous consent, from the Committee on Revolutionary Claims, to whom was referred the petition of the legal representatives of Daniel Bedinger, deceased, reported a bill (H. R. 415) for their relief; which bill was read a first and second time, committed to a Committee of the Whole House, and ordered to be printed.

On motion of Mr. De Jarnette, by unanimous consent,

Ordered, That the Committee on Revolutionary Claims be discharged from the further consideration of the petition of A. G. Neal, and that the same be referred to the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions.

E. Sickles to a seat in this House as a representative from the third district of New York, be, and he is hereby, required to serve upon. the said Sickles, within ten days after the passage of this resolution, a particular statement of the grounds of said contest; and that the said Sickles be, and he is hereby, required to serve upon the said Williamson his answer thereto in twenty days thereafter; and that both parties be allowed sixty days next after the service of said answer to take testimony in support of their several allegations and denials before some justice of the supreme court of the State of New York, but in all other respects in the manner prescribed in the act of February 19, 1851.
