The journal of yesterday was being read, when, on motion of Mr. Bacon, the further reading of the same was dispensed with, and it was ordered to stand approved.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS.

Mr. Mathews presented a petition from citizens of Champaign county concerning ballot reform, which,

On motion of Mr. Mathews, was referred to the Committee on Elections.

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS.

Mr. Bassett introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 99, for "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to regulate the foreclosure of chattel mortgages on household goods, wearing_apparel, and mechanics' tools,' approved June 5, 1889, in force July 1, 1889." On motion of Mr. Bassett, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

On motion of Mr. Bassett, was referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Bass introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 100, for "An act to amend section 86, of an act entitled 'An act for the assessment of property, and for the levy and collection of taxes.'

On motion of Mr. Bass, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

On motion of Mr. Bass, was referred to the Committee on Revenue.

Mr. Wells introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 101, for "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to enable associations of persons to become a body corporate to raise funds to be loaned only among the members of such associations,' in force July 1, 1879, and as amended by an act in force July 1, 1887, by adding thereto one additional section to be known as section fifteen."

On motion of Mr. Wells, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

On motion of Mr. Wells, was referred to the Committee on Building and Loan Associations.

Mr. Crawford, of Rock Island, introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 102, for "An act to provide for printing and distributing ballots at the public expense, and to regulate the holding of elections for certain public offices in this State."

On motion of Mr. Crawford, of Rock Island, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

On motion of Mr. Crawford, of Rock Island, was referred to the Committee on Elections.

Mr. Mathews introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 103, for "An act to provide for printing and distributing ballots at the public expense, and to regulate voting at elections."

On motion of Mr. Mathews, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

Mr. Bass introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 104. for "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to revise the law in relation to dower,' approved March 4, 1374."

On motion of Mr. Bass, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

Mr. Newell introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 105, for "An act to require inspectors of mines to furnish information to the State Geologist, and to provide for paying the expenses of the same.”

On motion of Mr. Newell, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

On motion of Mr. Newell, was referred to the Committee on Mines and Mining.

Mr. Humphrey introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 106, for "An act to organize township park districts."

On motion of Mr. Humphrey, the rules were suspended, and the bill was read at large a first time, and,

On motion of Mr. Humphrey, was referred to the Committee on Municipalities.

At 11:30 o'clock A. M., Mr. O'Malley moved that the Senate do now take a recess until 11:55 o'clock A. M.,
