Biography

CLAY STONE BRIGGS was born in Galveston, Tex., January 8, 1876; attended private and public schools, the University of Texas at Austin, and Harvard University; was graduated from the law department of Yale University in 1899; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced the practice of law in Galveston, Tex.; member of the State house of representatives 1906-8; judge of the tenth judicial district of Texas 1909-19; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-sixth and to the seven succeeding Congresses, and served from March 4, 1919, until his death in Washington, D. C., April 29, 1933; interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse, N. Y.
