ON DEATH.

The great fault of this piece, written by Dr. Parnell, is, that it is in eight fyllable lines, very improper for the folemnity of the fubject; otherwife, the poem is natural, and the reflections juft.

Y the blue taper's trembling light

No
more I waste the wakeful night,
Intent with endless view to pore

The fchoolmen and the fages o'er:
Their books from wisdom widely ftray,
Or point, at best, the longest way.
