PROCEEDINGS

OF THE

TWENTIETH ANNUAL MEETING

OF THE

Maryland State Bar Association

HELD AT

CAPE MAY HOTEL, CAPE MAY, N. J.

July 7th, 8th and 9th, 1915

MORNING SESSION.

July 7, 1915.

The first session of the Twentieth Annual Meeting of the Maryland State Bar Association was called to order at 10 o'clock A. M., by the President, Judge N. Charles Burke.

The President: Ladies and Gentlemen, and Members of the Association, I have determined to vary the program a little this morning by first calling for Reports. of Committees, and the first committee is that on Ad

The Secretary: C. A. Little, chairman, has sent in his report, which I will read:

REPORT OF COMMITTEE ON ADMISSIONS.

The Committee on Admissions respectfully reports that it has received applications in proper form from the following members of the bar of this State who are qualified for membership in the Maryland State Bar Association:

William C. Coleman, Baltimore City.
Edgar H. McBride, Frederick.
Jesse N. Bowen, Baltimore City.

The Committee on Admissions now begs leave to recommend these gentlemen as members of the Association.

In making this report, the committee desires to state that a special effort was made to secure as large a number of new members as possible, but for some reason, which your committee cannot explain, there seems to be very little interest manifested in the Bar Association on the part of the members of the bar, who are not now members thereof.

Over a hundred letters were sent out to various members of the bar of the State of Maryland, and particularly to 'attorneys who are already members of the Association, requesting them to make an effort to secure applications for new membership in their respective circuits. Very few of the persons to whom these letters were sent replied to the same, and the net result of the campaign was the three members above mentioned.

A few members of the bar suggested that perhaps the fact that the meetings of the Bar Association have been held outside of the State for some years past has had some

bership. It has also been suggested that if the meetings were held within the borders of the State of Maryland, the expenses of attending the meetings would be considerably lessened, and more members of the bar of the State would become members of the Association.

The committee makes no recommendations in regard to this matter, nor does it desire to express any opinion thereon, but includes it in its report for the simple fact that this matter was suggested to the committee by several members of the bar of the State.

C. A. LITTLE,

Chairman Committee on Admissions.

On motion duly made and seconded, and after vote, the report was declared accepted.

The President: The next report in order is that of the Secretary.

The Secretary read his report as follows:

REPORT OF THE SECRETARY.

By authority of the Executive Council, the Annual Report of the Association for the year 1914, was prepared for publication and issued.

The reports of the Association are annually sent to all the State Bar Associations, the local Bar Associations of the larger cities, the large Public Libraries, and the large Universities having Law Departments, throughout the United States.

The Association is now in a healthy condition, having a membership of 489.

Respectfully submitted,

On motion duly made and seconded, and after vote, the report was declared accepted.
