SEC. 6. The interest arising from the funds of the said corporation, except sufficient to defray incidental expenses, shall be appropriated to the relief of such indigent and disabled firemen and their families as may be interested in the fund, and who may in the opinion of a majority of the Trustees be worthy of assistance.

SEC. 7. All certificates now required to be obtained by firemen from the Clerk of said city pursuant to the provision of any law of this state, shall hereafter be obtained from the department, by this act incorporated; which certificates, signed by the President and Treasurer of this department, and countersigned by the city clerk of said city and under the seal of this incorporation shall have the like effect of those heretofore obtained from the said city Clerk, and shall be satisfactory evidence of the facts therein contained, and each person applying for such certificate shall pay therefor such sum as the by-laws of the department shall prescribe for the benefit of the corpor ation and the object thereof.

SEC. 8. It shall be the duty of the Board of Trustees to make out and deliver to the city Clerk once in each year, or whenever he may request it, an accurate list of all members of this corporation, who are exempt from jury or military duty, that are or may become entitled to the benefits thereof.

SEC. 9. This act is hereby declared to be a public act, and the same shall in all courts and places, be regarded benignly and favorably for every beneficial purpose hereby intended.

SEC. 10. The legislature may at any time alter, modify, amend or repeal this act.

SEC. 11. All acts and parts of acts which contravene the provisions of this act are hereby repealed, and this act shall take effect from and after its passage.

Chap. 27.

An Act to legalize the Assessment of taxes and to extend the time for the collection of the same, in the Town of Manchester, in Calumet County.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The tax list of the Town of Manchester, in the county of Calumet, is hereby declared to be as valid and legal to all intents and purposes as it would have been if all the re

quirements of law contained in the forty-eigth, forty-ninth, fiftieth, and fifty-first sections of chapter fifteen of the Revised Statutes had been strictly complied with.

SEC. 2. The time prescribed by law, within which Town, County and State taxes are required to be collected, is hereby extended for the period of thirty days for the purpose of collecting in said Town.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. That Henry Myers, Lorenzo B. Needham and Commissioners Charles O. Baxter, are hereby appointed Commissioners to lay out and establish a state road from Honey Creek Bridge, near the house of Bartholomew Ragatz by the way of Leland's mill, to Reedsburgh in Sauk county.

SEC. 2. The Commissioners appointed under the provisions compensation. of this act shall upon the performance of the work be entitled to such compensation for their services as the Supervisors of the county shall allow to be paid out of the county treasury.

An Act to amend Section 9, Chapter 131, of the Revised Statutes.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Scnate and Assembly, do enact as follows :

SECTION 1. That part of Section 9, Chapter 131, Title 29, of the Revised Statutes which is as follows: "But this Section shall not be so construed as to allow any fees of witnesses on behalf of the people in criminal prosecutions, or in suits for the

recovery of fines, penalties or forfeitures," be and the same is

hereby repealed.

An Act to change the name of the town of Farmersville, Dane county.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Chap. 31.

An Act to appropriate to Samuel W. Beall a certain sum of money.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated to the Hon. Samuel W. Beall, Lieutenant Governor, to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of one hundred and thirty-three dollars and fifty-six cents, being in full payment for services rendered as Governor of the State, during the absence of his Excellency, Gov. Dewey, from the 27th day of June to the 4th day of August A. D. 1850.

An Act to authorize the construction of a bridge across the Fox river at Depere.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

are permitted to build and maintain a bridge across the Fox river at Depere, in the county of Brown, immediately below the dam now constructed across said Fox river at that place. SEC. 2. Said bridge shall not be less than twelve feet in Owners, when width, and shall contain a draw sufficient to pass and re-pass all boats, vessels, or other water crafts at all times free of expense, and without unnecessary delay or interruption; and the said Cox his associates and assigns shall be liable to any person for such unnecessary delay or interruption and for all damages that may accrue to any person or persons in consequence of any insufficiency of said bridge, or by bad management of the draws of the same: said bridge to be commenced within one year and completed within two years.

SEC. 3. The said Cox, his associates and assigns, shall have Tolls. power immediately after the completion of said bridge to demand and collect tolls for passing over said bridge as follows: For any vehicle drawn by two horses, mules or oxen, twenty-five cents, and for each additional horse or ox, six and one fourth cents; for any vehicle drawn by one horse twelve and a half cents; for a single horse, six and a quarter cents; for all animals in droves, three cents each, provided that hogs and sheep shall not be charged more than two cents each per head; and foot passengers, three cents each.

SEC. 4. Said Cox, his associates and assigns, shall keep posted up in a conspicuous place on said bridge, a list of rates of toll allowed by this act.

SEC. 5. Any person or persons committing any malicious Penalty. injury to the said bridge constructed under the provisions of this act, shall be liable to the owner or owners thereof to the amount of injury done, and all damages sustained may be collected before any court having competent jurisdiction thereof, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished in the manner prescribed by law for offences of that nature.

SEC. 6. Any future Legislature may alter, repeal or amend this act.

SEC. 7. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.

Chap. 33.

An Act to amend an act entitled "an act providing for the sale of the school section in the city of Racine."

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows ·

SECTION 1. The time of payment of the purchase money secured to be paid to the State of Wisconsin by bonds and mortgages on the sale of said school section is hereby extended to become due and payable in one or more instalments at any time within ten years from the time of such sale at the option of the purchaser-the interest accruing on said bonds and mortgages to be paid in advance on the first day of January or within thirty days thereafter in each year, at the State Treasurer's office in Madison.

An Act to extend the time for collecting taxes in the town of Brooklyn, Sauk County.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The time for collecting the taxes in the town of Brooklyn, Sauk County, is hereby extended to twenty days beyond the time now required by law, and the Treasurer of said Town shall have the same right to levy on property and sell the same within said time so extended, as is now allowed by law for such purposes:

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage.
