General Specific powers of Trustees.

Rogan, D. S. McIntosh, A. Hutchinson, E. Efuer, A. H. Vanwie and Reed C. Brazelton, and their associates, together with such persons as may hereafter be associated with them, be and are hereby created a body corporate and politic with perpetual succession, to be styled by the name and title of the Cascade Academy, by which name they and their successors shall be ever known, and shall have power to sue and be sued, to contract and be contracted with, plead and be impleaded, defend and be defended in all courts of law and equity; said corporation shall have a common seal, and shall have power to acquire, purchase, receive, possess, hold and enjoy property, real and personal, and to sell and convey the same, rent or otherwise lawfully dispose of at pleasure.

SEC. 2. The stock of said company shall be divided into shares of twenty-five dollars each, which shall be deemed personal property, and shall be transferable on the books of said corporation, in such manner as shall be directed by the by-laws of said corporation.

SEC. 3. Any three of the above named persons shall have power to call a meeting of said association, by giving ten days' notice thereof, by posting up notices in at least three public places in the said village of Cascade, where said corporation is hereby located.

SEC. 4. At the first legally notified meeting, the stockholders shall have power to elect by ballot nine trustees, three of whom shall be elected for one year, and thrce for two years, and three for three years; and after the first election the [three] trustees may be elected annually: Provided, always, that all trustees shall hold their offices until others are elected in their place.

SEC. 5. At all elections and meetings of the company each stockholder shall be entitled to one vote for each share of stock owned by him

The Trustees shall have power-first, to elect from their number a President, Secretary and Treasurer, also to elect all other officers of the corporation-second, to call special meetings of the stockholders to fill vacancies in the board of Trustees-third, to sell, lease, mortgage, or otherwise dispose of any real or personal property of said corporation, in such manner as shall be directed by the stockholders, also to erect and keep in repair all necessary buildings for the use of said corporation-fourth, to employ suitable teachers and prescribe and direct the course of study and discipline to be observed in said academy-fifth, to prescribe the duties and fix the salaries of all the officers of said corporation, and to remove and sus pend them from office for incapacity, immoral conduct or misbe

An Act in relation to Smelters.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. That from and after the first day of June next, every smelter, and every purchaser of lead or copper ore in the State, shall keep a substantially bound book, divided into suitable columns, in which shall be entered, from day to day as the ore is received, the following items, to wit: the day, month and year when the ore is so received; the name of the person of whom the ore is purchased; the name of the person who hauls or brings it to the furnace or other place of delivery; the name of the owner of the ground from which the ore is raised or obtained, and if the owner is not known, then the name of the diggings to be given, or the ground in some way described distinctly

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The action of the town of Pleasant Springs in the county of Dane, taken at the last annual town meeting of said town, in relation to the distribution of the public school monies to the several school districts therein contained, shall, and the same is hereby declared binding on the school superintendent of said town in making the distribution of said school monies.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

An Act for the laying out of a State Road in the county of Dodge.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Spencer Givens, Charles Billinghurst and John C. Lewis, are hereby appointed Commissioners to lay out and establish a state road from the village of Dodge Centre in the county of Dodge, to the village of Hustisford in said county, upon the most direct and practicable route.

SEC. 2. The said Commissioners shall be entitled to receive for laying out said road such compensation as the board of Supervisors of the county of Dodge may deem sufficient: Provided, no part of the expense for the laying out of said road shall be paid out of the State Treasury.

Commissioners appointed to lay Atwater are hereby appointed Commissioners to lay out and out road. establish a state road from the village of Lowell in the county of Dodge to Oak Grove in the town of Fairfield in said county of Dodge, upon the most direct and most practicable route.

SEC. 2. The said Commissioners shall be entitled to receive Compensation. for laying out said road such compensation as the board of Supervisors of Dodge county may deem sufficient: Provided, Proviso. that no part of the expense of the laying out of the said road shall be paid out of the State Treasury.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Sarten and Jonas Loveless be and hereby are appointed commissioners to lay out and establish a state road, beginning at the junction of the Madison and Verona state road in the county of Dane, and running thence southwest on the present road, or as near as practicable, to Wiota, in the county of Lafayette.

An Act to lay out and establish a certain road therein named.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Appointment of SECTION 1. That Abraham Morton, C. J. Marsh, and Wellington Kollack, be, and are hereby appointed Commissioners to lay out and establish a state road from Pardeeville in Columbia county, via Montello to Stevens' Point in Portage county. SEC. 2. The said Commissioners shall receive a fair compensation for their services, from the several counties through which said road passes, each county paying a just proportion of said expenses: Provided, that no part of the expense of laying out said road shall be paid out of the State Treasury. An Act granting to John Coumbs and Thomas Andrew the right to keep and maintain a ferry across the Wisconsin river in the town of Richwood in the county of Richland.

The People of the State of Wisconsin represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. John Coumbs and Thomas Andrew, their heirs, right to main- executors, administrators and assigns, shall have the exclusive right and privilege, for the period of fifteen years, of keeping and maintaining a ferry across Wisconsin river, on section number thirty-six, in town nine, north of range number two west in the town of Richwood in the county of Richland.

SEC. 2. The said ferry shall be subject to such regulations as other ferries are or may by law be subject, and the proprietors thereof shall be entitled to receive for crossing any vehicle drawn by one or two horses or one yoke of oxen forty cents, for each additional horse or ox ten cents, for man and horse twenty-five cents, for cattle or horses in droves eight cents each Provided, hogs and sheep shall not be charged more than three cents per head, and for foot passengers ten cents each.
