TO ABOLISH THE JACKSON HOLE NATIONAL MONUMENT,

WYO.

MONDAY, APRIL 14, 1947

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
SUBCOMMITTEE ON PUBLIC LANDS OF

THE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC LANDS,
Washington, D. C.

The subcommittee met at 11 a. m., Hon. Frank A. Barrett, chairman of the subcommittee, presiding.

Mr. BARRETT (chairman of the subcommittee). The committee will come to order, please.

This is a hearing on H. R. 1330, a bill to abolish the Jackson Hole National Monument as created by Presidential Proclamation Numbered 2578, dated March 15, 1943, and to restore the lands belonging to the United States within the exterior boundaries of said monument to the same status held immediately prior to the issuance of said proclamation.

The bill will be inserted in the record at this point. (The bill is as follows:)

[H. R. 1330, 80th Cong., 1st sess.]

A BILL To abolish the Jackson Hole National Monument as created by Presidential Proclamation Numbered 2578, dated March 15, 1943, and to restore the lands belonging to the United States within the exterior boundaries of said monument to the same status held immediately prior to the issuance of said proclamation

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Jackson Hole National Monument as created by Presidential Proclamation Numbered 2578, dated March 15, 1943, be, and the same is hereby, abolished, and that the lands belonging to the United States within the exterior boundaries of said monument be restored to the same status held immediately prior to the issuance of said proclamation.

Mr. BARRETT. I might say that this matter has been heard extensively by this committee during the past few years. A good many members of the committee have viewed the monument area.

I do not propose to make my statement this morning, but shall do so this afternoon.

I think the first order of business will be to have the clerk read the report of the Department of the Interior on the bill..

Mrs. ARNOLD (the clerk). A letter from the Secretary of the Interior addressed to the Committee on Public Lands, dated April 9,

1947.

"MY DEAR MR. WELCH: Your committee has requested a report on H.
