Strana 142 - The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream : and he that hath my word let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat ? saith the Lord. Is not my word like as a fire ? saith the Lord ; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces ? Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words, every one from his neighbour.
Strana 133 - Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?
Strana 407 - Now, as our sense is strained and puzzled with the perception of objects extremely minute, even so the imagination, which faculty derives from sense, is very much strained and puzzled to frame clear ideas of the least particles of time, or the least increments generated therein: and much more so to comprehend the moments, or those increments of the flowing quantities in statu nascenti, in their very first origin or beginning to exist, before they become finite particles.
Strana 133 - Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?
Strana 410 - These expressions, indeed, are clear and distinct, and the mind finds no difficulty in conceiving them to be continued beyond any assignable bounds. But if we remove the veil and look underneath, if, laying aside the expressions, we set ourselves attentively to consider the things themselves which are supposed to be expressed or marked thereby, we shall discover much emptiness, darkness, and confusion ; nay, if I mistake not, direct impossibilities and contradictions.
Strana 214 - B are the same, being conscious of common ideas by supposition. The person in B is (for the same reason) one and the same with the person in C. Therefore the person in A is the same with the person in C, by that undoubted axiom, Qua: conveniunt uni tertio conveniunt inter se. But the person in C hath no idea in common with the person in A. Therefore personal identity doth not consist in consciousness.
Strana 435 - And what are these fluxions ? The velocities of evanescent increments. And what are these same evanescent increments ? They are neither finite quantities, nor quantities infinitely small, nor yet nothing. May we not call them the ghosts of departed quantities ? 36.
Strana 210 - I presume, you allow there are very evident propositions or theorems relating to force, .which contain useful truths : for instance, that a body with conjunct forces describes the diagonal of a parallelogram, in the same time that it would the sides with separate.
Strana 414 - But it should seem that this reasoning is not fair or conclusive. For when it is said, let the increments vanish, ie let the increments be nothing, or let there be no increments, the former supposition that the increments were something, or that there were increments, is destroyed, and yet a consequence of that supposition, ie an expression got by virtue thereof, is retained.
Strana 131 - ... Lord ; my soul doth wait ; and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the Lord ; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem his servants from all their iniquities. Psal. cxxx. Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the wickedness of my heels shall compass me about?
