section.

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after the first day of December, A. D.

1868.

SECTION 6. All acts and parts of acts conflicting with the provisions of this act are hereby repealed. SECTION 7. This act shall be published immediately after its passage.

AN ACT to provide for highways in recorded village plats.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The supervisors of any town within the lage plats may limits of which may be situated any unincorporated village with a plat of streets and alleys recorded according to law, shall have power at any regular meeting to declare any street or alley in such recorded village plat to be a public highway.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

SECTION 1. Section 9 of chapter 263 of the gen- Amended eral laws of 1860, "an act to provide for the government of the Wisconsin state hospital for the insane, and for other purposes," is hereby amended by adding the following to said section: "Whenever it shall ap

pear from the affidavits of the chairman of the county board of supervisors and the sheriff of the county, together with the certificate of the county judge, that the residence of the person adjudged insane according to law, is unknown and after due diligence cannot be ascertained, the superintendent shall receive such unknown insane person as a patient from the state at large,and shall not charge said patient against the ratio of patients to which said county is entitled. Hereafter each county shall be entitled to furnish at least two patients if it shall seek so to do."

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect force from and after its passage.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section eleven (11) of chapter fiftyeight (58) of the revised statutes, entitled "of weights and measures," is hereby amended so as to read as folLegal weight of lows, to wit: Whenever wheat, rye, Indian corn, oats, barley, clover seed, buckwheat, dried apples, dried peaches, flax seed, timothy seed or potatoes, shall be sold by the bushel, and no special agreement as to the measure or weight thereof, shall be made by the parties, the measure thereof shall be ascertained by weight, and shall be computed as follows: sixty pounds for a bushel of wheat or clover seed, fifty-six (56) pounds for a bushel of rye or Indian corn, thirty-two (32) pounds for a bushel of oats, forty-eight (48) pounds for a bushel of barley, fifty pounds for a bushel of buckwheat, twenty-eight (28) pounds for a bushel of dried apples or dried peaches, fifty-six (56) pounds for a bushel of flax seed, forty-six (46) pounds for a bushel

of timothy seed, and sixty (60) pounds for a bushel of potatoes.

CHAPTER 127.

AN ACT to authorize the governor to pay for the expenses of boarding and supporting Wisconsin soldiers in the "St. Mary's hospital of Milwaukee charitable eye and ear infirmary," who are afflicted with disease of the eye and ear contracted while in the service of the United States.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The governor of this state is hereby authorized to furnish board and support for such indigent Wisconsin soldiers as are afflicted with diseases of the eye and ear, contracted while in the military service of the United States, at the "eye and ear infirmary department of St. Mary's hospital, Milwaukee," as he may deem proper subjects for treatment at said infirmary: provided, that no sum shall be paid to surgeons or physicians for the care and attendance of such persons.

SECTION 2. The governor is hereby authorized to tract for board. contract with the trustees of such institution for the board and support of the persons mentioned in the first section of this act, and shall be at liberty at any time to put an end to such contract, both as to individual cases, and, generally, when he shall deem it proper to do so for the interest of the state.

Appropriation.

SECTION 3. There is hereby appropriated out of the general fund for such purpose the sum of five hundred dollars, to be used at the discretion of the gov ernor for the purpose aforesaid, to be drawn upon his order.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication. Approved March 6, 1868.
