CHAPTER 71.

AN ACT to amend section one of the general laws of 1867, entitled "of medical societies."

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section one of chapter 95 of the general laws of 1867, entitled "of medical societies," is hereby amended by adding thereto as follows: that if any practicing physician or surgeon shall write or cause to be written, any prescription or recipe, in any characters, figures or cypher, other than in the English or Latin language, generally in use among medical practioners, he or she shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be punishable for every such offence by a fine of a sum not exceeding twenty-five dollars and not less than five dollars."

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication. Approved March 4, 1868.

CHAPTER 72.

Shall apportion school moneys.

AN ACT to authorize the superintendent of public instruction to apportion school moneys to the towns of Caledonia and Mt. Pleasant, Racine county.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The state superintendent of public instruction is hereby authorized and directed to apportion to the towns of Caledonia and Mt. Pleasant, in the county of Racine, for the year 1868, such an amount of the income of the school fund as said towns would have been entitled to if joint district number twenty

thereof had maintained a school by a qualified teacher for five months during the year ending August 31,

1867.

SECTION 2. The town clerks of the towns of Cale. Town clerk shall apportion donia and Mt. Pleasant in apportioning school moneys moneys to disto the several districts of the said towns for the year 1868, shall apportion to joint district number twenty the full amount which the number of children, over four and under twenty years of age, as returned in the report of the district clerk for the year ending August 31, 1867, would have drawn if said district had maintained a school by a qualified teacher five months during said year as required by law.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication. Approved March 4, 1868.

CHAPTER 73.

AN ACT to amend chapter 398 of the general laws of 1864, en-
titled "
an act to authorize certain counties and towns therein
named to vote a tax to aid in the construction of a railroad
therein."

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Sections one (1) and seven (7) of said Amended. chapter are hereby amended by adding after the word "Richland" where it occurs in said sections the word "Crawford."

SECTION 2. Section six (6) of said chapter is hereby mid. amended by striking out all after the words "railroad company," where they occur in the sixteenth (16) line

of said section.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 74.

AN ACT to provide for the printing and publication of the transactions of the state agricultural society.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The state printer is hereby directed to print on good book paper, fold, stitch and bind in muslin covers, uniform in style with the last volume published, three thousand copies of the seventh volume of "transactions of the Wisconsin state agricultural society," embracing the years 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, 1865, 1866, 1867: provided, the number of printed pages of said volume shall not exceed five hundred; and to deliver the same, when complete, to the superintendent of public property, to be by him distributed as follows, to wit: Six hundred copies for the use of the legislature, fifty copies to the state library, fifty copies to the state historical society, fifty copies to the Wisconsin agricultural and mechanical association located at Milwaukee, fifty copies to the Northwestern agricultural and mechanical association located at La Crosse, fifty copies to the state horticultural society, twenty five copies to each county agricultural society in active operation: provided, that each of said industrial societies and associations shall furnish to the secretary of the Wisconsin state agricultural society an abstract of the [its] proceedings for publication in said volume; and all remaining copies to the said state agricultural society.

SECTION 2. The state printer is further directed, when the report of the state horticultural society, to be included in the volume of "transactions" aforesaid, shall be in press, to print, fold, stitch and cover with suitable paper, one thousand extra copies of the same for the use of said society.

SECTION 3. Hereafter, or until the legislature shall otherwise order, the transactions of the Wisconsin state agricultural society, including the report of the state horticultural society, together with abstracts of the reports of all the other industrial associations of the state,

so far as the same may be furnished, and such other material as is contemplated in section six of chapter eighty of the revised statutes, shall be annually printed, published and distributed in like manner and number as provided in sections one and two of this act, on the order of the governor.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage. Approved March 4, 1868.

CHAPTER 75.

AN ACT to amend section two of chapter 132 of the general laws of 1866, entitled "an act to vest the title of unredeemed lands in counties."

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section two of chapter 132 of the gene- Amended ral laws of 1866, is hereby amended so as to read as follows: "Section 2. The county board of supervi sors shall have full authority to sell and convey any and all such lands, and the certificates of tax sales to the county in such cases may be assigned, and tax deeds issued thereon, in accordance with the law now in force in such cases, and the proceeds therefrom shall be paid into the general or contingent fund of the county."

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication. Approved March 4, 1867.

AN ACT to authorize the secretary of state to credit [audit] the account of C. H. Purple, for services as bank clerk.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows :

SECTION 1. The secretary of state is hereby authorized to audit the account of C. H. Purple for services as bank clerk in the year 1860-1861, and draw his warrant on the treasurer for such amount as he shall find legally due on said account.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage. Approved March 4, 1868.

CHAPTER 77.

AN ACT to provide for the incorporation of benevolent, bible and literary societies.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Any number of persons, not less than may be organ. five, may unite for the purpose of organizing an association for benevolent, literary, charitable, musical, scientific, religious and missionary purposes, and for the distribution of the bible or parts thereof. They may sign and acknowledge before some proper officer authorized to take acknowledgment of deeds, a certificate in writing, in which shall be stated the name of such association, the names of the corporators and the name of the city, village, town and county in which the operations of such association. are to be conducted. Such certificate shall be filed in the office of the register of deeds of
