THE Editor, in giving the listory of the Work of Redemption has followed le fourth Edinburgh Edition, printed in the yea 1793. This is according to the form to which je manuscript was reduced by Dr. ERSKINE, and ppears to have been printed with uncommon accura, probably under the eye of the Doctor. This is perred to the London Edition, published in the yed 8 by Mr. PITCHER. The Editor of this Editin, though he appears to have been conscientiously preful to preserve the sentiments of Mr. EDWARD, has so varied the style, that we cease to rely the what we read is the compo sition of the original thor. The copious notes attached to this Editio were evidently designed to embellish the work, an render it more acceptable among literary men. Thy are thought to be of no advan tage to the reput/tion of the author, and but in very few instances tobe of any considerable importance to elucidate his bork. Some of our subscribers may have expected to see them inserted; but if it had been expedient, ve had absolutely no room for them.

TTHE EDINBURGH EDITION.

THEY wo have a relish for the study of the scriptures, and he access to peruse the following sheets, will, I am posuaded, deem themselves much indebted to the Reveren Mr. EDWARDS of Newhaven for consenting to push them. Though the acute philosopher and deep dine appears in them, yet they are in the general better alculated for the instruction and improvement of ordinay Christians, than those of President EDWARDS's wrings, where the abstruse nature of the subject, or the sbtle objections of opposers of the truth, led him to re abstract and metaphysical reasonings....The manuscript being entrusted to my care, I have:not presumed, make any change in the sentiments or composition. I have, however, taken the liberty to reduce it from the form of sermons, which it originally bore, to that of a continued treatise; and I have so altered and diversified the marks of the several divisions and subdivisions, that each class of heads might be easily distinguished.
