SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, that it shall be the duty of the select men of the several towns in this state, whenever any person not an inhabitant of such town shall become poor and unable to support and provide for him or herself, to furnish for such person, immediate and necessary support, and give information to the town to which such person belongs, if known, as soon as may be. SEC. 3. Be it fur her enacted, that if any select man after notice shall have been given to him as aforesaid, shall refuse or neglect to furnish such immediate and necessary support for such person, and give information thereof to the town to which such person may beong, if known, such select man shall be liable to pay and forfeit the sum of seven dollars, one half to him who shall prosecute the same to effect, *and the other half to the treasury of the town to which such select man belongs. IN ADDITION, passed May, 1819. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened, that no person who may come to reside in any town in this state, shall gain a legal settlement therein, and no inhabitant of any other town in this state, shall gain a legal settlement in any other town in this state by virtue of being pos sessed in his own right in fee, of any real estate in the town to which he or she may have come or removed, as specified in the second and third paragraphs of the act to which this is in addition, unless he or she shall possess the same free of any incumbrance for the space of one year. IN ADDITION, passed May, 1820.
