PREFACE.

In writing the preface of this book I will say that I had no idea of writing so extensive a work. Though for twenty years I have been gathering the matter for an extensive treatise on finance, I concluded that it would best reach the masses in an abridged or condensed form, so I compromised between the primer I set out to write and the extensive work contemplated for the future, and produced the forcible though condensed work in hand.

I will frankly admit I was led into the discussion of finance in prophecies by unseen forces, as stated elsewhere, and I will also frankly say that on the night of December 3rd, 1895, I was visited by a spirit and an angel in my own bedroom. I saw them.as distinctly as I ever saw any earthly beings, and I was in the full possession of all my faculties. They came in

answer to a prayer. thereby more fully assured of the righteousness of my course and encouraged to pursue my plans. To many this will seem the positive evidence of insanity or orankism. But to those who carefully read the work can feel assured they will, at least, admit there is very much method in my madness, as no book was ever written containing more and better evidence of authority.

With the evidence the history of the world shows of opposition to reformers and advanced thinkers, especially when their reforms strike the rich, I may expect, first to be ignored; with fair success, ridiculed; with greater success, all manner of
