Kingdom for a Stage: Magicians & Aristocrats in the Elizabethan TheatreSutton, 2001 - Počet stran: 270 "Joy set out to discover the meaning of the drawings and in so doing uncovered long-forgotten secrets of science, magic, mathematics and the occult. Of all the lost information that the drawings revealed the most exciting was contained in over forty engravings which turned out to be diagrammatic representations of the great Elizabethan theatres. This was an amazing discovery. At the time the Globe was being reconstructed in Southwark it has been thought that no plans had survived. However, the drawings of the Globe in the Byrom collection showed that the architects of the replica had miscalculated the dimensions of the theatre. Did this provide the answer for why the new Globe has suffered from sight-line and acoustic problems?". |
