The Memorial of the Legislature of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents:

That the present mail service between the village of Beetown, in this state, and the city of Galena in the state of Illinois, is altogether inadequate to the necessities of the business public, passing as it does through a densely populated portion of the country, and between points, whose business connections are already of great importance, and constantly increasing.

Your memorialists, therefore, respectfully ask, that the mail service above referred to, may be immediately advertised for letting, and daily mail service established thereon.

Approved, March 31, 1853.

To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representa
tives of the United States:

The Memorial of the Legislature of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents:

Your memorialists would represent that the establishment of said mail route would be of great importance to the people residing in that portion of the state, and are of the opinion, that the proposed route, if established, would be a source of revenue to the department.

on the Mail routes therein named.

To the Honorable the Post Master General of the United States:

The Remonstrance of the Legislature of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents :

That the interests and convenience of a densely populated and large portion of country, are deeply concerned in the continuance of daily service on the mail routes lying between Racine and Janesville, and the one lying between Kenosha and Beloit, in the state of Wisconsin, that several large and important villages are situated on said mail routes, which are entirely dependent on them for mail service, that said villages are largely engaged in manufactures and other business pursuits, which will be seriously injured by a withdrawal from them of the daily mail service which they have enjoyed for several years past.

Your memorialists, therefore, respectfully ask, that daily mail service may be contnued on said routes, and that the same may not be reduced to a tri-weekly mail. Approved, April 2, 1853.

D., 1843, which have not been paid by the said Territory or State of Wisconsin, and that said services were performed by the members of said Territorial Legislature n good faith, and in pursuance of a law of said Territory, and the same is a just claim against the United States.

Memorial to Congress to pay a certain claim for arresting and keeping a certain United States' Prisoner.

To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representa tives in Congress assembled:

The Memorial of the State of Wisconsin respectfully represents:

That in the month of September, 1849, one Elijah K. Jenner was convicted of counterfeiting United States coin, in the U. S. District Court of this state, and sentenced to states prison for ten years, and that in accordance with such sentence, he was confined in the jail of Waukesha county, (there being no states prison,) when he remained in the keeping of Alexander F. Pratt, sheriff of said county, for the space of three months, when he broke jail and made his escape; that said Jenner was pursued by said sheriff, and finally captured; that said Jenner after remaining in said jail two months and twenty days, again made his escape; and that said sheriff has never received any compensation for keeping or pursuing said prisoner.

Your memorialist, therefore, respectfully asks, the sum of five hundred and thirty dollars be allowed to said Pratt, for his expenses for pursuing and 'for keeping said prisoner, believing that amount to be justly due him, for the reasons aforesaid.

Your memorialists further state that it would be a great benefit to the people residing in that district of our State, many of whom are now destitute of mail facilities, and your memorialists are of the opinion that the establish ment of the proposed mail route would be a source of revenue to the department, affording mail facilities to a portion of the State rapidly filling up with enterprising settlers.
