No. 22. STATEMENT SHOWING THE QUANTITIES AND VALUES OF IMPORTED MERCHANDISE ENTERED AT EXTERIOR PORTS OF THE UNITED STATES, TRANSPORTED WITHOUT APPRAISEMENT, AND RECEIVED AT INTERIOR PORTS, DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 1881. NOTE-The merchandise reported in this table is also included in the preceding statements of imports, Nos. 3, 4, and 5. The differences in the amounts reported in this statement as "Transported from Exterior ports" and "Received at Interior ports" are accounted for by the fact that merchandise shipped from the port of first arrival is often received at an reported from the port of destination in a following month or fiscal year. For instance, a considerable portion of the merchandise entered at New York in the month of June for transportation to Chicago would reach the latter port and be returned as received from New York in the month of July. 455 |
