Keightley's main object in writing this work was to explain the mythology of Greece, as far as possible, by and through itself, and to give the student a clear and distinct idea of the manner in which the Greeks themselves viewed their religion and its traditions, so as to enable him to understand and appreciate the numerous allusions to mythical subjects occurring in the poets and other writers. The author attained this object in a manner that leaves little else to be desired. Illustrated.
