Spring-garden (i. e., Vauxhall): For a long time one of the most

noted of resorts in London. The name has been traced to a family bearing the name Vaux, which held an estate here in the days of Elizabeth. The gardens were closed in 1859. It is said, though not without question, that the notorious Guy Faux was better Vaux, and of the above family.
