The bill, entitled "An act making the ports of Biddeford and Pepperrelborough and the port of New Bedford, in Massachusetts, ports of entry for ships or veffels arriving from the cape of Good Hope, and from places beyond the fame," was read the third time and passed.

Ordered, That the Secretary acquaint the House of Representatives with the concurrence.

The bill, entitled " An act regulating the grants of land appropriated for the refugees from the British provinces of Canada and Nova Scotia," was read the third time and paffed.

A meffage from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Ofwald, their Clerk:

Mr. PRESIDENT-The Speaker of the House of Representatives having figned an enrolled bill, I am directed to bring it to the Senate for the fignature of the Vice-Prefident. And he withdrew.

The Vice-Prefident figned the enrolled bill, last reported to have been examined, and it was delivered to the committee to be laid before the Prefident of the United States.

After the confideration of the executive business, the Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock to-morrow morning.

FRIDAY, February 13th, 1801.

Mr. Dwight Fofter reported, from the committee, that they did, yesterday, lay the enrolled bill, laft reported to have been examined, before the Prefident of the United States.

The Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock on Monday morning.

MONDAY, February 16th, 1801.

The Vice-Prefident communicated a letter from Governor Sargent of the Miffiffippi territory, enclofing fundry petitions of the inhabitants thereof, stating certain grievances, particularly from an ac paffed the laft feffion of Congrefs, and praying redrefs; and the letter and papers were read.

Mr. Dwight Fofter, from the committee, reported, that they had examined and found duly enrolled, the bill making the ports of Biddeford and Pepperrelborough, and New Bedford, in Massachusetts, ports of entry for fhips arriving from the cape of Good Hope, and places beyond the fame; also the bill, making appropriations of lands for the refugees from the British provinces of Canada and Nova Scotia.

Mr. Dwight Fofter, from the committee appointed the 5th inftant, on the petition of Nathaniel Waldron and others, and to whom was alfo referred, on the 9th instant, a motion respecting the ports of Kittery and Berwick, in the state of Maffachusetts, reported a bill, which was read and paffed to the fecond reading.

The following written meffage was received from the Prefident of the United States, by Mr. Shaw, his Secretary:

Gentlemen of the Senate, and

Gentlemen of the House of Representatives,

I wish to know the pleasure of Congress and res queft their direction concerning the difpofition of the property of the United States, now in my poffeffion; whether I fhall deliver it into the hands of the heads of departments or of the commiffioners of the city of Washington, or of a committee of Congress, or to any other perfons Congress may appoint, to be delivered into the hands of my fucceffor; or whether I fhall prefent it myself to the Prefident of the United States on the fourth of March next. Any of these modes will be agreea ble to me.

The Vice-Prefident communicated a letter from the honourable James Schureman, a Senator for the state of New Jersey, refigning his feat, which was read.

On motion,

Refolved, That the Vice-President be requested to notify the executive of the state of New Jersey, that the honorable James Schureman hath refigned his feat in the Senate.

After the confideration of the executive business, the Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock to-morrow morning.

TUESDAY, February 17th, 1801.

The bill, to establish the district of Bristol, and to annex the towns of Kittery and Berwick to the district of Portsmouth, was read the second time, amended, and passed to the third reading as amended.

Mr. Greene, from the committee on the bill to discharge Samuel Lewis, fenior, from his imprisonment, reported it without amendment, and after debate, the further confideration thereof was postponed.
