Benjamin Batley, of Streatham, Surry, merchant; for a farther new method of curing and preferving herrings and fprats, which will allo extend to the curing and preferving of other fif. George Medhurst, of St. James, Clerkenwell, engineer; for a newinvented compound crank, for changing a circular motion into a rectilinear one, and vice verfa, which is applicable to various mechanical purposes. Dated January 27.

John Longman, of Pentonville, organ-builder; for new-invented improvements in the conftruction of barrel-organs, to prevent them from getting out of order; and that another mufical inftrument or inftruments may be internally united or attached thereto, and to play with the fame barrel. Robert Vazic, of Down-ftreet, Piccadilly, gentleman; for an im provement in the conftructing, conftruction and application of a gun, by means of removing the touch-hole from the fide to the centre of the but-end of the barrel, and forming therefrom a cylindrical communication, &c. Ann Young, of St. James's Square, Edinburgh; for an apparatus, confifting of an oblong fquare box, which, when opened, prefents two faces or tables; and of various dice, pins, counters, &c. contained within the fame, by means of which, fix different games may be played; which, befides being amufing and interefting, and fuch as children of eight years old may be taught to play; are, at the fame time, an improving exercife upon, and ferve to render familiar, and to imprefs upon the memory, the fundamental ~principles
