HISTORY.

To be in five volumes, by fubfcription, price Five Guineas; two and a half to be paid on the delivery of the two first volumes, which are just published, the remainder as each of the volumes comes out. The first volume of the ancient hiftory contains 2 maps, pictures of 25 Ruffian princes, the idol Suetovida, the Sanpau or Ternaire of Thibet, and three Greek and Ruffian Pontifs, in all 32 plates. The first volume of the modern history contains, a map of the deftruction of the Turkish fleet, 9 tableaux of finances, 12 tableaux militaires, and thofe of population. This is an authentic account, approved by the Academy of Medicine at Paris, of a very terrible diforder, which attacked lying-in women, at the Hotel Dieu, in 1774, and has continued at different times ever fince, till Mr. Doulcet found out a fpecific to which it has yielded.—See Jour. TACTICS.

The Manœuvres of Potsdam. Paris.-Thefe Manoeu vres take place at Potfdam three days in every year, and are a school for war. There have been 51 different ones fince the year 1764, in which they began. The author will therefore publish 51 large plates and a great number of smaller ones, with explanations. The fubfcription will be three hundred livres. A guinea on fubfcribing, and the remainder by three separate inftalments, to be paid as the three feparate parts of the work come out. I am informed this will be a good work. In Polish. Defcription of the Iron Works in Poland, by · L'Abbé Ofinki, 4to. with nine plates, eight of which, illuminated, exhibit fpecimens of 48 different

ores.

This is a fupplement to the defcriptions of Trades and Arts, publifhed by the French Academy of Sciences, and tranflated into Polifh by the author, who here fupplies the omiffion made in that work, with refpect to the Polish forges, of which he gives us a full account, and of every thing belonging to them. The reprefentation of the ores with their native colours being very expensive, the author had the burthen lightened by Mr. Malacofhi, Vice-chancellor of Poland.

This collection of letters, which is now printing, contains feveral corrections of claffical authors, which Mr. V. found in books which had belonged to Jofeph Scaliger, Heinfius, and other scholars, and which are now in the Ducal library at Weimar.

LANGUAGES.

Saggio fopra la Lingua Sarda, con un dizionario etimologico, delle varie voci che provengono dal Greco e dal Latino.-The first book ever publifhed in the 1. Sardinian language was printed at Cagliari about three years ago. It is a poem in ottave rime, on the cultivation of the filk-worm.
