Strana 656 - The indorsement must be an indorsement of the entire instrument. An indorsement, which purports to transfer to the indorsee a part only of the amount payable, or which purports to transfer the instrument to two or more indorsees severally, does not operate as a negotiation of the instrument. But where the instrument has been paid in part, it may be indorsed as to the residue.
Strana 655 - An instrument is negotiated when it is transferred from one person to another in such manner as to constitute the transferee the holder thereof. If payable to bearer it is negotiated by delivery ; if payable to order it is negotiated by the indorsement of the holder completed by delivery.
Strana 654 - The holder may at any time strike out any indorsement which is not necessary to his title. The indorser whose indorsement is struck out, and all indorsers subsequent to him, are thereby relieved from liability on the instrument.
Strana 461 - Every corporation, person or common carrier performing a service designated in the preceding section, shall furnish, with respect thereto, such service and facilities as shall be safe and adequate and in all respects just and reasonable.
Strana 205 - Generally speaking, evidence of other crimes is competent to prove the specific crime charged, when it tends to establish (1) motive; (2) intent; (3) the absence of mistake or accident; (4) a common scheme or plan embracing the commission of two or more crimes so related to each other that proof of one tends to establish the other; (5) the identity of the person charged with the commission of the crime on trial.
Strana 451 - On this day of 1966, before me personally appeared to me known to be the persons described in and who executed the foregoing instrument, and acknowledged that they executed the same as their free act and deed.
Strana 393 - Grocers' Fruit Growing Union v. Kern County Land Co., 150 Cal. 466, 89 P. 120; McFarland v. Martin, 144 Cal. 771, 78 P. 239.
Strana 134 - ... be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to sell or offer for sale...
Strana 388 - It is apparent that the mere fact of classification is not sufficient to relieve a statute from the reach of the equality clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, and that in all cases it must appear not only that a classification has been made, but also that it is one based upon some reasonable ground — some difference which bears a just and proper relation to the attempted classification — and is not a mere arbitrary selection.
Strana 396 - If people should not be called to account for possessing the people with an ill opinion of the government, no government can subsist. For it is necessary for all governments that the people should have a good opinion of it.
