STUDIES IN ROMAN LAW WITH COMPARATIVE VIEWS OF THE LAWS OF FRANCE, ENGLAND, BY LORD MACKENZIE ONE OF THE JUDGES OF THE COURT OF SESSION IN SCOTLAND EDITED BY JOHN KIRKPATRICK M.A., LL.B., LL.D., ADVOCATE PROFESSOR of histORY IN THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH WILLIAM BLACKWOOD AND SONS MCMXI All Rights reserved PREFACE TO SEVENTH EDITION. IN the present Edition, as in its predecessors, Lord Mackenzie's original text has been preserved practically intact. A few necessary alterations, however, have been inserted in square brackets, and several pages on International Law have been omitted from the Preliminary Chapter as having been superseded by recent works on that subject. The notes alluded to in the Preface to the Fourth Edition, which are also denoted by square brackets, have been carefully revised and brought down to date. The useful Bibliography, which in that Edition was considerably amplified, has now been thoroughly revised and further extended by Mr James M. Irvine, LL.B., Advocate, Lecturer in Roman Law in the University of Glasgow, to whom the Editor is also deeply indebted for invaluable assistance throughout the preparation of this Edition. J. KIRKPATRICK. EDINBURGH, September 1898. |
