HOLLOWAY'S OINTMENT AND PILLS.

RHEUMATISM and Neuralgia.-Though the former disease remorselessly attacks persons of all ages, and the latter ruthlessly selects its victims from the weak and delicate, the persevering use of these remedies will infallibly cure both complaints. After the affected parts have been diligently fomented with hot brine, and the skin thoroughly dried, Holloway's Ointment must be rubbed in firmly and evenly for a few minutes twice a day, and his Pills taken according to the printed directions wrapped round each box of his medicine. Both Ointment and Pills are accompanied by instructions designed for the public at large, and no invalid, who attentively reads them, can now be at any loss how to doctor himself successfully.

PAGE WOODCOCK'S WIND PILLS

MANCHESTER, June 13th, 1877.

TO MR. PAGE D. WOODCOCK.

SIR, I have found your Pills an excellent preparation for the Constipation and Flatulency so common in both sexes. They possess great advantages over other Pills. Their uniformity in strength, the smallness of the dose, and the certainty of their action, commend them to those who require a Tonic to assist digestion, relieve Wind in the Stomach, exert a special influence on the Liver, and also the peristaltic motion of the Bowels, resulting from Chronic Indigestion and lack of Assimilation. The more my experience in their varied applicability extends, the more their beneficial effects appear, and many households have found a great friend in your preparation. for the promotion of a healthy digestion. Their favourable action are all that could be wished for. I am, faithfully yours, THOS. FOSTER KER, Surgeon.

A Visit to Loreto.

A BIBLE TOUR IN ITALY, BY THE REVS. J. WALL AND N. H. SHAW. It was towards evening when we exchanged the train for the omnibus which was to take us from the station to the famous town of Loreto. Who has not heard of that renowned place and its Holy House? There is the city on the hill-top above us, two miles or more from the railway station, commanding a magnificent view of the country around, and of the blue Adriatic-"a city set on a hill that cannot be hid." The hillsides are covered with olive-trees, and every inch of ground is cultivated with a care and industry which it well repays. As we gaze from our rising-ground first on the sea and then on the city to which we are climbing, we think of the words: "Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Sion, on the sides of the north." But we remember that we are not approaching as reverent pilgrims, and feel strangely out of place, especially as we look at our New Testaments, which we hope to leave in the hands of the people. We are by no means sure what fate awaits us, or whether, in spite of law, we may not find the city very uncomfortable. It would be a help to us to know something about the inhabitants. We ask our fellow-travellers, who reside at Loreto, if the inhabitants have the same faith in the miracles, etc., as the country people around are reputed to have. The answer was a cautious one, for Italians rarely express their thoughts on religious matters until they are quite sure of the company in which they find themselves. It was simply: "O, there are those who believe and others who do not." It was at least encouraging to hear that not every one of the inhabitants believed in the lies told by the priests. We soon found ourselves in a larger town than we expected, and were set down at an hotel near to the church, which is the centre of attraction. After commending ourselves and our enterprise to God, and seeking His guidance, we order some refreshment, and while it is preGENERAL BAPTIST MAGAZINE, MAY, 1884.-VOL. LXXXVI.-N.S. No. 5.
