Academic freedom and the inclusive university

Seventeen essays from academics in Canada and the US explore the conflict between academic freedom and inclusion in Canadian universities. Early contributions examine the terms of reference and clarify the differences between Canadian and American viewpoints. Others look at the conflict from theoretical, historical, and personal perspectives, some promoting the necessity of inclusion and others arguing that it has destroyed a consensus essential for legitimate academic life. Five chapters are devoted to the theoretical and practical challenges to the inclusive university, such as balancing religious beliefs and liberal tolerance. Canadian card order number: C00-910779-7.
