Loading... English Drama 1580 - 1642 (edition 1933)by Nathaniel Burton; C F Tucker Brooke Paradise (Author), Illustrated (Illustrator)I'm admittedly biased towards Tucker Brooke for his establishing of the Marlowe canon, but even if I weren't I would recommend this anthology for any student of non-Shakespearean early modern drama. Most of the plays are available individually as New Mermaid or Regents Renaissance Drama editions, but this is one of the few anthologies that combine them in one handy volume. There are footnotes throughout, but the plays are presented very bare bones, which isn't necessarily a flaw for those who wish to concentrate on the text. Even new, and admittedly very expensive for a paperback, this book was still cheaper than investing in 30 different individual editions, and is certainly worth a used price. |
